The Sacre Couer or Sacred Heart is breathtaking. The over look of the city streets is also worth the climb it will take to actually get you to this Basilique. You are rewarded when you do though with not only a view of scenic Paris but also if you choose to look around- an encounter with Montmartre, where many Parisian artists line the streets daily trying to sell work the little village is filled with cafes and french architecture as well.
Colmar was founded in the 9th century and it is a town and commune of Alsace. It's a well preserved old city that centers houses and large scale buildings in German gothic and Renaissance style, we can find a large number of old churches, like the Saint-Martin from the 13th-16th century, which is the largest and most important. In the 15th century, the local artist Martin Schongauer, painted his masterpiece, The Madonna of the Roses, in Colmar's Eglise des Dominicains (Dominican Church).
Alsace is located on the eastern border of France, on the west bank of the Upper Rhine and is adjacent to Germany and Switzerland. It was part of the Holy Roman Empire and in the course of the 17th century was slowly put under French sovereignty and made one of the provinces of France. It has many forests like the Haguenau Forest and several valleys are found in the région. Its highest point is the ballon de Guebwiller with 1426 m. This region is very famous for its wines and beer brewing.
Champagne-Ardenne is located in the northeast of France, bordering Belgium and consists of four départements: Aube, Ardennes, Haute-Marne, and Marne. Its rivers include the Seine, the Marne, and the Aisne. Visitors often go to Champagne for its history and mostly for its world-famous wine. However, they change their minds when they discover the region's cultural heritage and its cuisine, like Troyes and its ancient houses, Langres and its walls, Épernay, Reims, or Colombey-les-deux-Églises. This region contains some magnificent forests and lakes, where you can enjoy long walks and water sports.
Toulouse is located in southwestern France, near the Pyrenees, and has become a center of aviation and spaceflight in the past 20 years, with almost 10% of its population working in the civil aviation and space industries. It is built over an ancient Roman settlement, with many small streets following their Roman counterparts and red brick buildings with a pseudo-Roman style, giving Toulouse the nickname of La ville rose (the Pink city).
The Fête des lumières or Festival of lights, happens every December 8th in Lyon, to express gratitude to the Virgin Mary. Every house place candles outside every window, creating a spectacular effect on the streets. The festival lasts 4 days, and the 2 main points are the Basilica of Fourvière, light up with different colors, and the Place des Terreaux which hosts a light show, different every year.
One of the main tourist attractions in Paris, the Seine river is a commercial waterway and it is located in the north western part of France. It flows from the southern part of the Plateau de Langres, which is a chain of hills in the department of Cote d´Or and it is the second longest river in France, after the Loire.
The Ardennes is a region of extensive forests and rolling hill country, primarily in Belgium and Luxembourg, but stretching into France. Much of the Ardennes is covered in dense forests, with hills averaging around 1148-1640 feet high and rising to over 2132 feet in the boggy moors of the Hautes Fagnes region of north-eastern Belgium. The region is typified by steep sided valleys with fast-flowing rivers, with the most prominent being the Meuse. Its principal cities are Liège and Namur, both in the Meuse valley.
Divonne-les-Bains is a popular spa town in the department of Ain, and lies on the border with French-speaking Switzerland, between Jura mountains and Lake Geneva. You can also find there casino, golf course, open air swimming pool, hippodrome and artifial lake. A short way above the town there are several natural springs, who were known to the Romans, who who built an aquaduct from Divonne to Nyon to supply water to their garrison. Divonne hosts a small chamber music festival every summer which is centred on its tiny theatre, which is the Chateau de Divonne, a 19th-century hotel which overlooks the town.
Antibes is a resort town in southeastern France, on the Mediterranean Sea, in the Côte d'Azur. Located between Cannes and Nice, it is 20 km southwest of Nice, and situated on the east side of the Garoupe peninsula.
It was formerly fortified, but all the ramparts were demolished in the 1860s, except for the ones of Fort Carré, and the ones along the sea coast.
Antibes has one of the largest yacht marinas on the Côte d'Azur, and it used to be a site of perfume distilling and the urrounding country once produced an abundance of flowers. Now, that distillation is carried out in nearby Grasse.
